The only precise information that we have about the life of the Monastery, comes from the 1500's and are details by the caretaker-priest Domenico Gabrielli who tells about the violence with which the undisciplined soldiers treated the convent and the church during the Sienese War.

The humanistic ideal of reviving classical culture and creating a new harmony between nature and history seemed within reach. Pius II always remained enamoured of his childhood home, of the wide-open spaces in Val d'Orcia and Monte Amiata, which he rendered so poetically in his "Commentarii". He decide that Corsignano should serve as a loboratory where the ideal city might become a reality. Thus, thanks to "the fondeness" in his heart and his dream of perfection" (as described by the Italian poet Giovanni Pascoli) Pienza was born as Pope Pius' ideal city hotel val d'orcia . It was the outcome of the Pope's dream, Leon Battista Alberti's theories and the plan drawn up by Rossellino during just over three years, from 1459 to 1462

All guests who has a reservation in our Hotel are allowed to enter the historical centre (Corso il Rossellino 26, Pienza) by car to the Hotel only to load and/or unload the luggage. The Hotel does not have any parking places, however the Hotel receptionist will be happy to show a detailed map of Pienza and all the free parking areas. These are placed outside of the historical centre still within walking distance from/to the Hotel.
Alternatively, Hotel can arrange a valet parking. We suggest to book this option in advance.
